How much does it cost to hire an event boat on Sydney Harbour?

When hiring an event boat in Sydney, the cost can range between $500-$2,500 per hour depending on the vessel type and season. Additionally, most boats require a wharf pick up and drop off fee, which is usually around $150-$200. Many event boats provide all-inclusive food and drink packages that come with waitstaff and use of the boat’s sound system.

For a fully catered experience, the cost per person can be expected to range from $70-$200. To avoid any unexpected costs on the day, we will provide a breakdown of all expenses upon your enquiry.

What is the duration of my function boat hire?

Typically, the standard hire time for event boats during the high season (September – April) or on Saturdays throughout the year is 3-4 hours or more, although there are a few vessels that offer 3-hour hires all year round. Meanwhile, most vessels offer 3-hour hires during the low season (May – August) and on weekdays throughout the year.

What times are available for hire?

Floating venues and event boats are generally available for hire during the afternoon or evening. Afternoon hires typically begin at either 12 pm or 1 pm, while evening hires typically start at 5 pm or 6 pm. Please inform us of your preferred time, and we will provide you with information on the available options.

What is included in my event boat hire?

When you hire an event boat in Sydney, it comes with the vessel, a professional skipper, and a crew to navigate and manage the boat. Most boats only offer all-inclusive options or a cash bar, but if you are interested in bringing your own food and drinks, please inform us upon enquiry. In some cases, BYO options are available.

We will thoroughly review the details of any event package to ensure that you understand what is included and what additional costs may be applicable.

How far in advance should I book?

It’s common for most large event boats to be fully booked a few months in advance, especially on Saturdays during the high season. To secure a spot for your preferred time and date, we recommend booking at least 3 months prior to your event.

However, we understand that last-minute bookings may be necessary, and we are more than willing to accommodate them whenever possible. Even if you are organising an event on short notice, we will do our utmost to assist you in finding an available option for your preferred date and time.

Is swimming possible during our cruise?

While not all function boats provide the option to swim, some function boats allow you to add a swim stop for a small staffing surcharge. Additionally, we have vessels available with a giant water slide for added fun. If your boat has easy water access, the captain can take you to the most secluded and ideal swimming spots. All you have to do is mention your interest in swimming when you make your enquiry, and our team will handle everything else!

How does it work with food and drinks? Can we organise catering or BYO?

The majority of event boats provide all-inclusive packages with popular free-flowing drinks, including canape, BBQ, buffet or platters. To comply with RSA guidelines, it’s mandatory to have enough food on board for all cruises. While some vessels offer BYO food and drinks or a cash bar option, we will inform you of all inclusions and any associated fees when you make your booking. This way, you can plan accordingly and avoid any unexpected expenses.

We highly recommend considering the catering options offered by the boat. Our partners provide a diverse selection of delicious food and beverage options, making it easy for you to plan your onboard dining experience. Not only that, but it can also be a more convenient and hassle-free option, allowing you to sit back and enjoy your day on the water.

Where will we be picked up and dropped off?

You can find a list of all the available pick-up and drop-off wharf options here. While it may be possible to choose separate locations for pick-up and drop-off, this option is subject to availability and potential surcharges. Our team will offer suggestions on suitable locations for your group and recommend vessels that can pick you up from your preferred wharf.

What happens when it rains?

Event boats will venture out on the water only in weather conditions that the captain considers safe. In the event of unsafe weather conditions and subsequent cancellation by the captain, you will be issued a voucher for the full value of your booking, which you can use to reschedule within 12 months. Even if it rains, our guests still have a fantastic time on the Harbour – function boats offer ample space to stay dry, thanks to their large undercover areas, and inclement weather can even add to the fun!
